Person dies in crash on I-90 in Euclid
EUCLID, Ohio (WOIO) - A driver standing outside of his vehicle after a crash on I-90 Wednesday evening was struck by another vehicle and killed.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Donald Ray Mills Thompson, 51, of Cleveland.
According to Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, Thompson was driving a Jeep Compass when he was involved in an accident with a GMC pick-up truck at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday in the right lane of I-90 west near E. 222nd Street.
At 10:38 p.m., the driver of a Equinox was traveling west on I-90 in the right lane, when she rear-ended the Jeep, pushing the vehicle into Thompson. The Jeep then struck the rear of the GMC pick-up truck.
Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the GMC was not injured.
The driver of the Equinox, a 57-year-old Painesville woman, received non-life threatening injuries and was transported to University Hospitals, said troopers.
Euclid police had the highway closed between the Route 2 split and E. 222nd Street until around 2 a.m. Thursday.
Troopers said the accident remains under investigation.
