Jason Nicholas

Jason is no stranger to forecasting weather in northern Ohio. Before arriving at 19 News to lead the First Alert Weather Team, Jason spent 10 years at WEWS both forecasting weather and hosting the high school quiz show, Academic Challenge. He has also filled in numerous times on ABC's Good Morning America in New York.

Jason is a Cleveland guy. He grew up in nearby Medina, and graduated from Medina High School. He is a proud graduate of the prestigious E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University in Athens. He studied meteorology at Mississippi State University and successfully completed the Broadcast Meteorology Program there.

Jason's weather forecasts and hosting experience in Cleveland have garnered him six Emmy awards.

Before coming home to Cleveland in 2006, Jason spent two years at KRQE in Albuquerque, NM. While there, Jason’s forecasts were recognized multiple times by the New Mexico Associated Press for excellence. Jason began his career at WCHS in Charleston, WV and WSAZ in Huntington, WV.

Jason was the first meteorologist in Cleveland to receive the coveted Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation from the American Meteorological Society (AMS). The CBM is the highest level of certification from the AMS and is granted to broadcast meteorologists who meet established criteria for scientific competence and effective communication skills in their weather presentations. The CBM is an upgrade to the AMS Seal of Approval, which Jason also held prior to his CBM designation. Jason also holds the Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association (NWA). Jason serves on the NWA seal committee and is a member of both professional organizations.

Aside from forecasting Cleveland's sometimes crazy and always unique weather, Jason is simply a Cleveland fan. Whether he's out enjoying many of our diverse neighborhoods like Gordon Square, Tremont, Ohio City or downtown - Jason loves sampling our incredible restaurants, quality wineries, and our growing craft beer scene with his wife Ashley, who is also a meteorologist.

Jason is also into sports and the outdoors. When he's not in the weather office, you can most likely catch Jason out a local golf course, a softball field, cheering on the Cavaliers, Guardians or Browns, going for a run in the Metroparks, or hiking in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Jason works and volunteers with local charities like the Cleveland APL, Youth Opportunities Unlimited, Northeast Ohio Autism Group, and Cleveland's Key to the Cure that raises money and awareness for women's cancers at the Cleveland Clinic.
