CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Several Cleveland police officers who were first on the scene after a seven-year-old boy was injured when a pick-up truck crashed into his apartment building, visited him in the hospital.

Sgt. Thomas and Officer Wolski brought Lorenzo toys from Minecraft and Spiderman and replaced a Nintendo Switch that was destroyed in the crash.

The officers also collected enough money to provide Lorenzo’s family with gift cards for groceries and clothing.

In addition, the donations covered three new beds and three new dressers to replace those ruined in the accident.

The accident happened around 2:40 a.m. on Sept. 4 at the Cielo Azul Apartments in the 4000 block of Fulton Rd.

This is in the city’s Old Brooklyn neighborhood.

Lorenzo was sleeping in his bed when the accident happened and was trapped underneath the hot engine of the truck. Firefighters said it took about 20 minutes to free him.

Police said the little boy suffered third degree burns to over a quarter of his body and has been hospitalized since the crash. He has received skin grafts for his burns and his currently receiving physical therapy to help him regain his strength, police said.

The driver fled the scene, but has since been arrested.

Cleveland police have identified him as Patricio Lozano. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges of aggravated vehicular assault, OVI, vandalism, and not stopping after an accident.
