WICKLIFFE, Ohio (WOIO) - A traffic stop led to three men facing “a variety of charges” after the driver initiated a pursuit, the passengers tried to run away, and one threw a loaded gun out of the car, the Wickliffe Police Department confirmed.

WPD said a patrol officer attempted to stop a car on the highway for a moving violation and for not displaying a license plate the night of Oct. 6.

The driver refused to stop, and a pursuit involving several area departments was initiated, according to WPD.

WPD said officers used tire deflation devices which struck the suspect vehicle and caused it to come to a stop in the city of Euclid.

That’s when the two passengers ran out of the car, stated WPD.

Both men who tried to run away plus the driver who stayed in the car were apprehended, according to WPD.

An item was thrown from the car during the pursuit, WPD said, which was later found to be a loaded handgun.

WPD stated the three men will face “a variety of charges stemming from this incident.”
