CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - A local group is hoping to help a historic plaza recover from what has been a catastrophic year.

Karis Tzeng is the director of AsiaTown’s Initiatives.

This is an effort by Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, Destination Cleveland, and the Downtown Cleveland Alliance, along with neighborhood organizations around the city.

It’s a city-wide promotion that includes 16 neighborhoods.

The motivation behind this cause is simple….. support and buy local.

This week right before the lunar New Year, the promotion is happening here at Asia Town.

“You know how we are in February; it’s been almost a year that we’ve been experiencing the effects of the Pandemic,” Tzeng added.

The plan’s goal, to make sure businesses like the ones in Asia Town’s Neighborhood stay open long after the pandemic is over.

This is why Jerreka Stewart is happy to help.

“I may go into this local market and buy me some tea,’ Stewart said.

Stewart says that the Asia Town has been a staple in the community for many years.

She will there, using her hard-earned money, to make sure the business owners stay afloat.

“Especially at China town, they give you different ideas and different cultures,” she said.
