GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio (WOIO) - Two officers were assaulted, one of which was injured, while Garfield Heights Police arrested six people in connection to the criminal activity happening around one street the past few weeks, GHPD confirmed.

Garfield Heights police said Langton Avenue and the surrounding area has “experienced numerous incidents over the past few weeks, including felonious assaults, shots fired, and multiple disturbances.”

Officers conducted investigations and surveillance on the suspects believed to be responsible for “a large part of the activity,” according to police.

Six suspects were arrested the evening of Oct. 11 on Langton Avenue in connection with those investigations, stated police.

Two of the officers were assaulted during the arrests, resulting in one of the officers being injured, police confirmed.

Police said one of the arrested suspects was turned over to another agency for his involvement in “other serious crimes.”

The Garfield Heights Police Department shared the following statement on this incident:

“We cannot thank our residents enough for being vigilant in reporting what they see and providing us with valuable information to aid our investigations. Your commitment to keeping our city safe is truly admirable.

We have and will continue to use all resources available to us to remove those involved in criminal activity from our city, particularly in the Langton area in this case. Reckless behavior that jeopardizes our resident’s safety and quality of life will simply not be tolerated. Thank you again to everyone for the efforts!”
